Tote type diaper bag is a combination of both fashion and functionality. It is just like oversized handbags.

They usually come with one long shoulder strap. Some models may have two shorter handle straps.

Some tote bags have additional pockets and space for your mobile and more.

Some brands, like the Ju-Ju-Be BFF diaper bag, come with detachable straps so you can turn it into a backpack or messenger style.

However, it can work well for a quick trip to the supermarket or coffee shop.

Pros

Perfect for short trips.

Large opening.

More options in terms of color, fabric, and style.

Looks like a big stylish handbag rather than a diaper bag.

Cons

Heavy to carry.

Not so dad-friendly.

Weight is imbalanced that leading to unnecessary strain on the shoulders and neck.

Backpack diaper bags is one of the most popular types of diaper bags. It looks like a regular backpack but comes with more and more compartments for all the baby stuff, e.g. holds changing pad, wipes, bottle, etc.

Convertible Diaper Bags

A convertible bag is a combination of all styles rolled into one.

It can be converted into a backpack or messenger bag depending on your needs.

Most of these bags also come with handles for carrying like a briefcase.

Usually, the straps that allow for easy conversion are not the most comfortable for both uses.

Backpack straps can’t convert to shoulder bags, and the thinner straps of a shoulder bag can dig into your shoulders when worn as a backpack.

To be frank, I am not a fan of this style. Because these styles come with straps that can be convertible into other styles.

Proper backpack diaper bag straps will be more comfortable rather than these convertible-style straps.

Pros

Versatile and Practical.

Easily converts to meet the different needs for different parenting adventures.

Different strap options allow for easy access to a shoulder bag when you need it, or provide the even weight distribution of a backpack that is out of your way.

If you are sharing this bag with your partner, you can each wear it in the way you prefer.

Cons

May not perform each style’s advantages 100% as a bag made just for that style.

Not comfortable using the thinner strap while converting it into a backpack.

Diaper Clutch Bags

Diaper Clutch Bag

It is a small, portable bag that usually features a small strap that slips over your wrist. Clutches only fit the bare minimum.

Another minimalist option is a waist bag, also known as a fanny pack or a belt bag. These types of bags go around your waist and are the best hands-free option.

Pros

They have a large enough changing pad with pockets inside that make it easy to organize wipes and diapers.

There is also usually a small pocket for parent essentials like a phone or maybe a tiny wallet.

Perfect for short travel.

Cons

There is no easy way to carry or wear the clutch when you are running around, and storage space is limited.

Usually only fit a couple of diapers and no other essentials such as snacks, bottles, toys, or change of clothes.

Stroller Handlebar Diaper Bag Attachments

Some diaper bags come with stroller loops or straps that can be used to hang the bag into your stroller handlebars.

But before buying it, please check with your stroller’s manufacturer whether the handlebar can bear the weight of a diaper bag.

However, when the bag is heavy, the weight might cause the stroller to tip backward.

Many convertible strollers often have a basket underneath the basket.

I would suggest not hanging diaper bags or shopping bags over the handles of the carriage or stroller unless or until it is lightweight.

It is better to use the shopping basket underneath the stroller.

Pros

You don’t have to carry anything separately in your hands.

There is usually a spot for a coffee cup or water bottle, and it is easy to see/grab what your little ones need.

Cons

It is only useful, as long as you are with your stroller.

It is not safe to hang your diaper bag into the stroller handlebar.

Conclusion: What Kind Of Diaper Bag Is Best?

Every types of diaper bags has its own pros and cons. The model I am comfortable with may not comfortable for you. So it is completely upto you to choose what kind of diaper bag suits you best!

Some people buy more than one diaper bag to suit their needs. So that they don’t need to carry a big-size diaper bag just for a supermarket visit.
